Ontario Land Surveyor

Senior Ontario Land Surveyor
Summary
As a licensed Ontario Land Surveyor, he or she will be responsible to the Senior Ontario Land Surveyor and/or the activities of the office in which he or she is a part. This includes coordinating staff, overseeing projects, providing supervision, expertise and guidance to the department as well as working as a part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide technical expertise and ensure successful completion of projects. He or she should be fully capable of conducting topographical and cadastral land surveys and have knowledge of spatial analysis, spatial data management, cartographic mapping, and aerial photograph interpretation and Lidar. This individual will be capable of conducting all research regarding maps, previous surveys, deeds and any other records necessary prior to conducting surveys. The Senior Surveyor will be tasked with the complex analysis of all field-obtained spatial data and information.

Job Duties
- Work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the successful completion of all projects.
- Assist in the management of the surveying department providing leadership, guidance, training, evaluation and expertise.
- Plan, schedule, monitor and direct the activities of the Surveying department.
- Oversee and ensure the technical quality of projects.
- Provide technical expertise in the areas of safety, surveying methods, and practices.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records; prepare project reports, as well as correspondence relating to project work.
- Build and maintain client relationships to further business development activities.
- Develop and oversee detailed land survey plans.
- Conduct topographical surveys.
- Create and maintain detailed survey information.
- Record all survey information for future reference and legal purposes.
- Accurately indicate elevations, property lines and land contours.
- Research titles, deeds, previous surveys, maps, etc.
- Conduct complex spatial analysis.
- Accurately manage spatial data.
- Review and interpret maps, cartographical surveys, aerial photographs and other relevant data.
- Utilize GPS and complex surveyor's tools.
- Utilize GIS, ESRI, ArcMap, CAD and similar software.
- Interact with governing bodies, planners, land owners, real estate agents and other interested parties.
- Respond to internal and external survey queries.
- Ensure that a high degree of standardization is met with all contracts.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Professional Ontario Land Surveyor license
- Completion of an accredited surveying/geomatics program.
- 5 years of surveying and geomatics experience.
- experience in project management.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
- Working knowledge of the Statutes and Regulations applicable to the profession including the AOLS Manual.
- Strong working knowledge of complex surveyor's tools and GPS equipment.
- Strong working knowledge of GIS, ESRI, ArcMap, Manifold, CAD and Cogo software.
- Adaptable to changing priorities and procedures.
- Self motivated, strong analytical skills and detail-oriented.

Work Conditions
